Art Making in the park
From the producers of the Eastside Culture Crawl Festival comes an innovative art-making event, the CREATE! Arts Festival.
CREATE! Arts Festival is a new community initiative of the Eastside Arts Society, bringing together local artists and the community to explore, learn and CREATE! art together through a series of affordable and accessible art workshops, and a public-participation art installation. Attendees of all ages will learn how to CREATE! art such as block printing, felt making, glass blowing, ceramics and painting from Eastside artists in a safe and comfortable outdoor space this summer.
The CREATE! Arts Festival is designed to deepen the connection between the public and artists in the Eastside Arts District by creating a meaningful exchange and provide capacity building opportunities for artists that are directly connected to their art practice.
The CREATE! Arts Festival will host pre-registered art making workshops exploring a variety of mediums throughout the day on Saturday in Woodland Park and at various Eastside studio locations on Sunday. Each participant will create something they can take home or that can be picked up later after firing.

AGES 6–9 YEARS: 10AM & 1PM. This fun workshop offers kids the opportunity to paint and create hanging ceramic sculptures! For the younger kids (6-9 yrs) a variety of bisqued ceramic shapes will be provided (circles, stars, animals, etc.) that they may choose from and then paint. Participants will then use twine, beads, and a found branch to assemble their final ceramic sculpture which they can take home to hang and display that day. AGES 10–14 YEARS: 4PM. Learn to make hanging ceramic sculptures from scratch! This workshop will introduce participants to cutting shapes out of clay slabs and how to work with underglazes and carving techniques to give their clay pieces unique textures and detailing. There will be a mini follow up event the following week at Studio 116 when participants will pick up their fired clay pieces and assemble them to complete their one of a kind hanging ceramic sculpture. All children must be accompanied/supervised by an adult during the workshop (adults are not required to participate).
