CREATE! ARTS FESTIVAL | about us
The CREATE! Arts Festival is a community initiative bringing together local artists and the community to explore, learn and create art together through a series of affordable and accessible art workshops and a public-participation art installation.
The CREATE! Arts Festival is presented by the Eastside Arts Society, the new name for the Eastside Culture Crawl Society. While CREATE! Arts Festival 2021 is a pop-up pilot with workshops focused primarily on creating visual arts, as the festival grows over time it will expand to include other art disciplines, including live music, dance, and spoken word. The art-making festival will enhance and increase the professional opportunities the Eastside Arts Society offers its members and to artists in general.
CREATE! Arts Festival will consist of 40+ art making workshops taught by Eastside artists run over two days and a public participation community art piece exploring the theme of community resilience. The workshops will be for up to 10 participants and all workshops will be conducted with Covid safety protocols in place. Some examples of what participants will learn to make are: a unique piece of jewellery or sculpture, a small hand-built clay vessel, a leather card wallet and a soft sculptural flower using felt.
The CREATE! Arts Festival will host pre-registered art making workshops exploring a variety of mediums throughout the day on Saturday in Woodland Park and at various Eastside studio locations on Sunday. Each participant will create something they can take home or that can be picked up later after firing.
The CREATE! Festival will work to connect and engage communities that have been isolated during the pandemic, serving to rebuild and forge a sense of community, safety, and belonging through the medium of art, exchange, and creation. It is designed to provide capacity building opportunities for artists that are directly connected to their art practice.
